The state, with its imposed measures, is upholding and reinforcing patriarchy, materially and ideologically.
The attack from state officials and establishment media (Monika Hermann, Bild) against “party people without children” once again shows that in the view of the state and its allies the nuclear-family is the “normality” that should be upheld, and whoever deviates should be blamed, even for the spread of the pandemic.
Forcing people to stay home along with home office schemes, triples the working day for women* as production, reproduction and emotional work are taking place at the same place and time constantly, peaking the physical, mental and emotional load with no escape. Staying at home also reinforces interpersonal violence, as the measure does not take into account that for a lot of people, their households are not safe places, trapping women* in abusive environments.
The very conservative, hetero-patriarchal polarization in the Corona times leads to an even more blatant exclusion and criminalization of people who live or want to live outside of the traditional gender patterns and family structures, since restrictions of social contacts (e.g. 2 households) does not allow individuals to spend time with their chosen circle of reference.
